Books Books and More Books

This is the weekend for the SC Book Festival and of course I attended today's session and I plan to attend tomorrow's session. I feel a lot of joy being around other book lovers and I love to listen to authors talk about the process of writing books. These aren't craft sessions, but they're interesting and you always come out of the meeting thinking about your own process.

I went to last year's session as a writer and a would be novelist. I marvelled at the ability of these people to create characters, place, and plot out of the air. I thought about how much I wanted to do that on a bigger scale than the short stories that I typically wrote. I listened last year as someone that wanted to write a novel as someone that had started multiple novels and hadn't completed a single one.

This year, I'm attending as someone that has written a novel albeit an unedited, unrevised novel. I'm hearing things from a different perspective almost as if I'm part of the inside group, the group in the know. Isn't that weird? I'm not a published author. I have a lot of work to do if I'm going to get there, but I'm one of the few that have written a complete draft of a book from beginning to end.

I'm looking forward tomorrow's sessions. I can't wait to see what the rest of the panels have to say.
